Here is an analogy:
You sit before a personal computer, a very powerful piece of equipment. It can compute. It can do a multitude of logical functions simultaneously. And if you ask it a question it will reach into its storehouse of memory to retrieve an answer and display it on your monitor. Your computer is a very powerful instrument.
Once you connect your computer to the Internet, it becomes infinitely more powerful. For once it is connected to the Internet, you have access, through your computer, to thousands of other computers’ memories, and communications with hundreds of millions more computers and the people operating them.

There are vast differences between our minds and computers. However, the above analogy serves to illustrate in simple fashion the comparative difference between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind performs similarly to your personal computer, whereas the subconscious mind harnesses vast amounts of potential power much like the Internet.
We are all acquainted with our conscious minds. We use our conscious minds for immediate information about the world around us. The conscious mind incorporates what it receives from the senses – sight, hearing, feeling, taste, and smell – to give us an objective account of who we are, where we are, and what we are doing. We use our conscious minds to solve problems and give us direction. And we attribute our achievements to how well we use our conscious minds.
Much like a powerful computer, we are capable of extraordinary feats using the conscious mind alone. However, much like connecting to the Internet, we are capable of much much more if we learn to tap the power of the subconscious mind.

When “Law of Attraction” experts allude to a secret that has led great men and women to extraordinary achievements, they are talking about the power of the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is actually connected to the life force of all living things. Our subconscious mind not only sees to it that our vital organs function with precision at all times, it also governs a reservoir of instinct, intuition, creativity, imagination, and beliefs.
It is beyond the scope of this article to explain the dynamics of the “universal mind.” However to understand that “all mind is one mind” and that we are connected to the universal mind through our subconscious, is to begin to comprehend the infinite power of the subconscious mind. This is power that we can learn to tap into. This is power that all great achievers have tapped into.
We have seen that the subconscious mind not only governs our creative processes, but that it is connected to a “universal mind.” Thus Charles Haanel could say that, “When we discover this world we shall find the solution for every problem, the cause for every effect; etc.” With all the knowledge and information we can obtain by connecting to the internet, the power of the subconscious mind is much greater. Its product is not only information, but also creativity and active problem-solving. Its source is the entire universe.
There is an anecdote about Henry Ford in which the magnate was asked how different mechanical components worked. He said that he, himself, may not know the answers to all the questions, but he had a telephone and a long list of friends. He knew who to call for any particular information or to solve any particular problem. We all possess great capabilities with the use of our conscious minds, alone. However, we also have the potential to achieve beyond limits by putting the power of our subconscious mind to work.
